2nd International Conference on Endometriosis was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan at B. M. Birla Auditorium complex from 8-10th March, 2019. About 44 international luminaries from 17 countries, ranging from North America to Australia, had attended & shared their experience on this disease of Endometriosis.
The inaugural lecture was delivered by the living legend Dr B. N. Chakraborty.
Endometriosis Society India (ESI) was formed for the first time in India way back in 2003 to fight against a single dreadful female disease which is not cancer but much more distressing than cancer. ESI has its Headquarter at Kolkata, informed Dr. Pradip Kr. Mitra, Organizing Secretary of 2ndInternational Conference on Endometriosis 2019 (ICE 2019) & Founder-cum-Deputy Secretary General of ESI. He also informed that this was the brain-child of Dr. P. Das Mahapatra, who is the Organizing Chair of ICE 2019 & Founder Secretary General of ESI. The aim of this organization is to make every adolescent girl aware of the disease as one out of every three girls who have painful menses would develop this disease in future. Besides, other objects were to update the knowledge of General Practitioners & Gynecologists on Endo, enhance the surgical skill of gynecologist, organizing CME in different states of India including International Congress every 3rd year etc.
The disease has only two symptoms as pain of various nature and failure to have pregnancy. It is incurable and recurrent disease with refractoriness. The disease can start at very early age and might have progressed to extensive stage when it is detected on the basis of symptoms.
Dr. P. Das Mahapatra highlighted the preventive aspects of the disease and dissemination of awareness program at remote rural areas apart from diagnosis & management.
Lastly Dr. Pradip Mitra summarized why the theme of the conference was ‘Fighting the foes – Endometriosis & Fibroid’. Awareness on painful menses, not ignoring the symptom, earliest detection, correct treatment & lifelong follow up are the key points to fight against the disease – the mission & vision of this International Event.
It was a very tough task to arrange such event of very high stature at Jaipur, Rajasthan with total control & supervision from Kolkata headquarter, informed an organizing official. He acknowledged that the roles of Dr. Partha Bhattacharya & Dr. Arun Majumdar were very crucial to make it a grand success. - Hello Kolkata Network
