The Padatik Dance Troupe is set to perform a unique musical dance-drama in Houston, USA entitled, ‘Yakeen Ka Safar' ('Journey of Trust'), during the annual cultural festival of 'Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research and Support' (FCCRS), a non-profit charity organization based in Houston, USA.
This dance-drama scripted by Mumbai-based theater director and producer, Salim Arif, an alumnus of National School of Drama, New Delhi and helmed by Keka Kar, director of Virtuosi of Performing Arts, is inspired from Rabindranath Tagore's drama, 'Kabuliwala'.
Souvik Chakraborty, the dance lead and choreographer, who has learned Kathak from Pt. Birju Maharaj amongst others, will be supported by fellow Kathak dancers, Ritusri Choudhuri and Subrata Pandit while Sajid Jamal will be performing as well as training local talents in the folk and semi classical dance compositions.
Somnath Chakraborty, the Music Director will be composing the score in Indian Classical Music style and mixing it up with Bollywood's popular songs to synchronise with the Kathak steps. Singers Kamalika Chakraborty, Sanjib Bhattacharya and Sudipta Gain will be providing live background vocals in tune with accompanying instrumentalists.
Once there, the team will further collaborate with several talented children from Taylor High school, Houston for the final showpiece.
