Kailash Mohta has not honked in the last 30 years after he returned from the United States where he was inspired by people’s road etiquette. He started a campaign in January 2017 to raise awareness about unnecessary honking. He used to wear a poster on his back and covered his scooter with informational messages about the problem of honking. It is during his rides through the city when he met people who expressed the desire to join his movement. He also garnered support from the local traffic police.
Since then, he has distributed more than 10,000 pamphlets to drivers and passers-by. He has conducted more than 10 sessions across reputed schools of Kolkata and organized 4+ rallies in collaboration with Kolkata Traffic Police and local youth clubs. His initiative has been covered by numerous media houses on newspaper, radio, and television.
