On 9th October, 2018, a major fire accident had occurred at Bhilai Steel Plant resulting in the loss of precious lives of 14 employees including 5 fire brigade personnel. To pay tribute and also as a remembrance of the departed souls, it had been decided at SAIL level to observe the date 9th October every year in different units of SAIL as ‘SAIL Safety & Remembrance Day’ with the aim of creating awareness towards prevention of accidents at workplaces and also improving safety practices at different units of SAIL with the aim of avoiding similar incidents in future. In line with other units of SAIL, SAIL Safety & Remembrance Day was observed at Durgapur Steel Plant also at ED (Works) building inside plant on 09.10.2019, in the presence of Shri AV Kamlakar, CEO, other senior officials, departmental safety officers, union representatives, etc.
