Poem by Dr. Sujata Chatterjee

Monsoons
-Dr. Sujata Chatterjee

The parched earth looks for some relief
She harbours on the heavenly belief
That monsoons will surely revive her again
The ethereal earthy fragrance, the glistening drops of rain.

Quenching the thirst of the lush green leaves
Swaying gently in the soft, damp breeze
The butterflies and bees humming on the trees
As the warmth of the summer sun begins to cease.

Dark clouds and thunderbolt that strikes from the sky
Lightening that tears across the dome so high
The wind that howls aloud in glee
And pitter patter raindrops,  that fall down on me.

Fields are fertile, the farmers rejoice
They grow all the crops of their choice
Kids with umbrella and colorful raincoats
Sailing in the puddles, those little paper boats

Mesmerised, I watch the downpour amazed
The view becomes misty and hazy, as I gazed
My hands, that I stretch, collects the pearl drops of rain
The rainbow that refreshes and nourishes me again.
