Local girl Yubrani Banerjee survives a scare in the opening rounds of the Women's Singles event at the ongoing ZEE BANGLA - Central Excise Open AITA Men's & Women's National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2019, been held at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association Complex.
Banerjee, seeded 3 in the Women's Singles draw, seemed too erratic at the start as she dropped her serve twice to hand over the opening set to unseeded Kaavya Sahwney of Uttar Pradesh. From there, Banerjee made a come back by winning the next set by a comfortable 6-3. In the decider, Bengal's only seed in the Women's Singles draw played almost flawless to take a massive lead of 5-1 but faltered here to drop two consecutive games before closing the match by a long 2-6,6-3,6-3.
Ishaque Eqbal, also from Bengal and seeded 4 in the Men's Singles draw did not have to sweat much as he surpassed Andhra Pradesh's Sivadeep Kosaraju by a straight 6-4,6-2 in the first round.
ZEE BANGLA Central Excise Open AITA Men’s & Women’s National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2019, a Central Excise Athletic Club calendar event will be held from 8th – 13th April 2019 at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association Complex, Salt Lake Stadium. The qualifying rounds were played on the 6th & 7thof April 2019.
This event had started off purely as an invitational tournament in 1985. In 2003, the event got recognized by the All India Tennis Association and got converted into a national ranking prize money championship.
This year, ZEE BANGLA is Title Sponsor. Century Ply Board Industries Limited, Kalpana Industries and Patton will also be supporting the week long championship.
The tournament will follow the guidelines laid down by AITA. The Tournament would be played on the six synthetic courts as in the Australian Open at the BTA Complex.
Entries for the Championship are from nineteen states of India.
Local girls Shreya Chakraborty and Shatavisa Ghosh enters the main draw of the Women's Singles event at the ongoing ZEE BANGLA - Central Excise Open AITA Men's & Women's National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2019, been held at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association Complex.
Unseeded Shreya of Bengal did not take much time to tame Odisha's Sanya Yadav, seeded 6 in the qualifying draw, by a straight 6-2,6-1 to enter the mains. Shatavisa instead had a tough time against 8th seeded state-mate Rupkatha Mukherjee as the former won the final qualifying round by 1-6,6-3,6-3 marathon which lasted for an hour and 42 minutes.
Local challenge in the final round of the Men's Qualifying Draw, Arghya Das went down fighting against Maharashtra's Rohan Bhatia by an easy 2-6,1-6.
Local girl Yubrani Banerjee sets up a summit clash with Telengana's Shaikh Humeira at the ongoing ZEE BANGLA - Central Excise Open AITA Men's & Women's National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2019, been held at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association Complex.
Banerjee, seeded 3 in the Women's Singles category, played almost flawless to surpass the top seeded Nidhi Chilumula of Telengana by a straight 6-3,6-4 in the semi finals. Banerjee will face Humeira in the finals tomorrow, who in turn got the better of Nithyaraj Baburaj by a long 6-2,3-6,6-3.
The top seeded duo of Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash and Parikshit Somani lifts the Men's Doubles title defeating Niki Poonacha and Dakshineshwar Suresh, seeded 2 in the draw, by a nail-biting 6-4,7-6(4). In an unfortunate Women's Doubles finals, top seeded Saumya Vig and Humeira Shaikh got a walk over from their opponents, Yubrani Banerjee and Kaavya Sawhney.
