Ramesh Dutta Street Sarbojanin Durgotsav-- Helping the Social Cause

Ramesh Dutta Street Sarbojanin Durgotsav has stepped into its 74th year which is organized by Uttar Kalikata Ananda Mandir in the Rambagan area in a red-light region and a slum. They started an educational coaching centre, free of cost from 1992 with only 10 students, presently which grew into 543. The Committee is helped by CINI and Ramkrishna Mission Lok Shiksha Parishad. They provide education to students from class 1 up to Graduation. They also assist these students in singing, dancing, vocational training, computer training and beautician courses. Medical check-up and Polio vaccination campaigns are also being organised throughout the year. To run these programmes properly, people of the area, KMC school buildings and 130 years old Chaitanya Library have helped them. 
    Ramesh Dutta Street Sarbojanin Durgotsav Committee also operate a crèche and they wish to open a night shelter for the street children, informed Vice-President Sankar Kumar Sarkar. They donate stationery articles, clothes and even school fees to these children.
    One of their students got selected and was allowed to participate in a UNICEF programme known as the ‘Voice of Children’ in the USA. Also students participated in other programmes at various other states and even in Bangladesh.
      In the year 2011, with the help of British Council, Kolkata Police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation and with the assist of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club, they started a Free Football Coaching Camp with 105 students for both boys and girls. Out of this, one girl was sent to Belgium and a boy to Manchester for further training.  
     Their aim and belief is that if a child, irrespective of their gender, is properly guided till the age of 18 yrs, then he/she will have a proper life and take the responsibilities of their families.
    In 2017  Ramesh Dutta Street Sarbojanin Durgotsav Committee ran a State Bank of India (Jorasanko Branch) Free Account Opening Campaign where they helped around 190 people of the area to open up their bank accounts. These children lend their hands in decorating their Puja Pandal. The involvement of people from every corner of our society without any discrimination in their Puja makes the celebration very special, remarked Chandan Khan, President of  Ramesh Dutta Street Sarbojanin Durgotsav Committee.
