66th College Day Celebrations of DMET


DMET - Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (presently known as Indian Maritime University) in Calcutta, which was inaugurated on Dec-14, 1953 by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, with the Transport Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in attendance, in Calcutta, at P/19, Taratola Road,  celebrated their 66th College Day on 15th Dec. in the college campus  itself. Here elite Senior Ex-Cadets - Mr.R.G.Singh (Ex-Ch Surveyor of Govt of India),  Mr. Alok Kumar Sarkar (Ex-Ch. Marine Engr.) were felicitated with Life Time Achievement Award in the presence of Ch.Guest Cdre. Ashok Bhal (Director IMU), GOH Mr.Satya Sahoo (Associate Professor, WMU, Sweden), Mr. P. K. Bhattacharjee (Vice-President, Ex-Cadet Association), Mr. P.K. Mazumdar (Secretary of the Association) and Mr. S.K. Sarkar (Jt. Secy. of the association), gracing the dais.


   The Ch. Guest and GOH enlightened the audience on the present shipping scenario globally and role being played by the Indian seaman in the Maritime Industry. The Director IMU, appreciated  the support the College  received from the Ex-cadets Association and assured his all round  assistance whenever needed, even to every individual Ex-cadets.
Mr.S.K. Sarkar, played the key role of a perfect host while Mr. P.K. Mazumdar  proposed the vote of thanks to everybody connected with this college day celebration.


He also informed that IMU has nominated a nodal officer as well as a room has been earmarked as "Facilitation Centre" for ex- cadets' interaction with IMU.
This was followed by 6-a-side, 6 over each, friendly cricket tournament  among ex-cadets, number of party games (more for the ladies and children) and well spread drinks, snacks & lunch, with active participation of 300+ members.
