Local lad Aditya Vardhan Roy Chowdhury stole the show as he breezed past qualifier Mai Gao of China in the opening round of the ongoing DKS ITF JUNIOR TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP 2020, been held at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association Complex.
Roy Chowdhury made a remarkable come back from 2-4 down in the opening set to level it to 4-4. Thereafter, both the players held serves to take the set to a crucial tie-breaker, where Bengal got lucky as Roy Chowdhury won by a close 9-7. In the second, it was more of a one-sided affair as Roy Chowdhury played almost flawless to grab the set by a comfortable 6-1.
Top seeds in both Boys & Girls Singles Under 18, Pengyu Lu of China and Maria Sholokhova of Russia respectively had an comfortable day at work as they entered the pre quarter finals with great ease. Lu brushed Thailand's Tanapatt Nirundorn aside by 6-2,6-3 whereas Sholokhova whitewashed Bhakti Parwani of India by a dominating 6-1.6-0.
