Good Friday is a very auspicious day. On this day Lord Jesus Christ sacrificed His life for the Salvation of Mankind.
On this Good Friday, St. Xavier's College, (Calcutta) Alumni Association came forward under the leadership of its President and Principal of the College, Rev. Father Dominic Savio, SJ, Rev Fr. Jeyaraj Velusamy, SJ, Rector and other Fathers of St. Xavier's to share food with the needy local people. This effort is over and above St. Xavier's Kolkata's support of Rupees 40 lakhs, which had already been contributed to the Chief Minister's special Corona Relief Fund. The food distribution was organised with assistance from Kolkata Police.
Father Dominic Savio, SJ, said this sharing of meal signifies caring of our neighbours, who are in distress in this trying time, as it has always been the principle of Xaverians to be 'Men and Women for Others'. He said, distribution of food packets has been done after following all stipulated safety norms and will be repeated on the forthcoming Easter Monday. He also said the Good Friday Prayer Service in St. Xavier's was conducted only by the priests and the attendees were asked to pray from home.
