Being a manager is by no means an easy job. For instance, you will end up spending more time managing a team than using the core skills you are trained in. You will be inundated with meetings – one-on-ones, strategy sessions, interviews – and a big part of your day will be spent making decisions. And if you go wrong, which sometimes you will, you’ll also be an easy target. But there are several upsides to being a manager as well:
- You can impact people’s lives in a direct and positive way. Seeing your team succeed is an amazing feeling.
- You will fix broken processes, the impact of which will be long-lasting.
- You have a tremendous responsibility towards your team, but you also have the freedom to figure out how to achieve that mission.
