Meetings over video have their issues, such as time lags and unexpected interruptions. But in removing people’s physical presence they can level the playing field, particularly for women. Video calls put everyone in what can be the “neutral rectangle”, removing aspects of people’s appearance, such as height and build. Everyone’s body language is similarly restricted and people have to speak in turn, rather than over each other.
