Digital rights activists claim this violates the Supreme Court’s verdict on the right to privacy and the IT Act, which emphasizes consent and proportionality. But an unidentified government source told the daily that information was collected only to map the places visited by Covid-19 positives, and the order was under the Disaster Management Act.
